Divorce, Custody & Support

Resolving Family Law Matters

Working through the legal system is never easy, but when family matters are the basis of the fighting, the situation can get emotional. Whether you are worried about losing your children in a custody battle, not receiving enough visitation time or paying too much child support, it can be frustrating to wait for the legal answers you need.

When clients contact me, I help them understand their rights, the possible outcomes of the case and what to expect at each step of the process. Although I cannot guarantee how the judge will rule on your case, understanding the best and worst case scenario can take fear of the unknowns out of the equation.

I am Dale Watson, Attorney at Law, and I have more than 30 years of experience representing clients throughout Salisbury and the eastern shore of Maryland in divorce and other family law matters. Understanding Child Custody and Child Support Arrangements

If you are in the middle of a divorce, you may be wondering what will happen with your children. Where will they live? Who will take them to school? Who will be responsible for paying for their extracurricular activities? When I represent clients, I help them understand the factors that will be taken into consideration in child custody and support arrangements:

  • Child custody: In child custody matters, the best interest of the child is the biggest consideration. Who has been the primary caregiver for the child? Who will be able to give the child the best care? Who will provide the child with the best health, education and welfare?
  • Child support: In Maryland, child support payments are determined by a state-regulated formula. The formula factors the incomes of both parents, additional cost for work-related day care and health insurance.
